Be an NABH Advocate!
Since 1933, NABH has been a national leader in behavioral health advocacy and has a proven track record on legislative and regulatory issues. NABH has established relationships and meets regularly with Members of Congress, Executive Branch representatives, and other industry stakeholders on your behalf.
These are NABH’s advocacy priorities:

- Legislators should direct agencies to align current Contingency Management incentive payments with scientifically proven incentive levels. Learn more about using Contingency Management to combat stimulant use disorder here.
- Legislators, regulators, payers, and employers should work to ensure patient access to behavioral healthcare treatment across the entire behavioral healthcare continuum, which includes inpatient, residential, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, outpatient, and recovery and support services. Please see NABH’s Access to Care resolution on our website’s Access to Care page.
- Legislators and regulators should eliminate unnecessary regulations that prevent access to care and impede recovery. Please see NABH’s report, The High Cost of Compliance: Assessing the Regulatory Burden on Inpatient Psychiatric Facilities, on our Access to Care page.
- Congress should repeal the Medicare program’s 190-day limit.
- Congress should eliminate the Medicaid program’s 15-day cap and allow patients to receive inpatient mental health and substance use disorder treatment as they do for all other conditions in Medicaid.
Please take some time to read the following advocacy materials. We also urge you to share this information with others, including your federal, state, and local government officials and their staff.
